Shooters just got weird indeed…
“Creating a shooter based on the Plants vs. Zombies franchise was something few people would have ever expected, but we think the real surprise will come when fans get their hands-on the game,” said Brian Lindley, Producer on Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare. “While it’s a totally different genre for the series, Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare is every bit as accessible as the original game and offers the same level of depth, strategy and insane fun fans expect from the Plants vs. Zombies universe.”
I honestly thought it was a pretty oddball premise for a shooter too, but after I actually saw Garden Warfare in action I kind of changed my mind. There’s a ton going on here and most of the staple PvZ gameplay quirks from the tower defense version of the game are intact if just a little bit… different.
I’ll say one thing though, as someone who’s not really a fan of the property, this one has my attention and actually has me interested in PvZ for the first time. That has to count for something and I can’t imagine I’m the only gamer either. Plants vs Zombies, on the whole, has had that ‘casual’ staple on it since developer PopCap launched it on mobile platforms a few years back.
Garden Warfare definitely isn’t casual at all and actually looks like it might bridge the gap for the PvZ franchise and bring it onto the consoles of more core game players. If you’re looking to take a nibble, or a full-on bite, out of Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare; it’s available right now for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 from EA and (who else?) PopCap.
