Marvel will restart its presses for May 27th

With some shops reopening, Marvel has announced that it will start shipping once again. Stores should have books by the end of the month.

The business awakens

With the coronavirus pandemic still an issue for many, states and countries have been reluctant to reopen. That’s more than understandable, with the health threat still looming. Over the past few days though, some localities have taken the plunge, and that means a return to business, including comic book shops.

Of course, that also means that those businesses will have distancing, sanitizing policies, and new occupancy restrictions in place. But still, it’s nice to see things at least starting to get back to normal. That however, is something that the comic book biz will not be getting back to.

If you’ve been watching what’s been happening in the industry, then you know that major moves have been going down. Chiefly, I’m talking about DC Comics breaking with long time retail partner Diamond. The publishing giant has chosen a different path, and began offering direct market comics again as of last Tuesday.

Wednesday is for Marvel (& everybody else)

While what hit the shelves was mainly reprinted material, this week will offer all-new books, including some heavy hitters. For DC, Tuesday looks to be new comics day going forward too, which is a return to decades past, when all comics delivered then.

Marvel though, has been mum on when fans could expect its return. But as of today, the wraps have been taken off of its plans. Marvel Comics will return, via Diamond, on Wednesday, May 27th.

The company has made official a staged-relaunch, which sees major titles resuming their runs every week through July. They also point out that stores won’t be open everywhere, and some fans will have to have their books delivered.

Once again though, it’s better than nothing. And hopefully, by the time we get to Marvel’s final staged-week (July 8th), we’ll all be rolling back to a sense of normalcy.
