YouTube to track ‘top trending’ games starting right now

There are a ton and a half of video games on YouTube, and starting this month the media mega-site will be tracking them all, and releasing one list to rule them all each and every month.

Both “watch time and uploads” are a part of just how YouTube plans on tracking individual video games and the user videos that result from them. When combined, those two categories should give fans a pretty solid idea of just what’s trending on the ‘Tube and where their favorite games sit.

As you can see too, from the info-graphic below, we’re not just talking consoles and PC here. Mobile games are very much a part of this new initiative, with Boom Beach sitting right there are number 10.

It’s kind of a strange list. Well, maybe ‘surprising’ is a better word with games like Boom Beach, The Division, Shovel Knight, and Subnautica all placing. And Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 at no.1? Bit of a shock for me. I know all those games are popular (well, I didn’t even know what Subnautica was to be honest) but I would have thought games like Call of Duty and Starcraft would have been the subject of way more user vids than any of the above.

Interesting stuff. Have a look at the chart below.

About Jason Micciche

Jason's been knee deep in videogames since he was but a lad. Cutting his teeth on the pixely glory that was the Atari 2600, he's been hack'n'slashing and shoot'em'uping ever since. Mainly an FPS and action guy, Jason enjoys the occasional well crafted title from every genre.
