The music of GTA5 now available

If you’re a Grand Theft Auto fan, then you might want to get over to the iTunes store as a trio of albums has dropped today that tells the musical story of Rockstar’s latest mega-blockbuster.

Tunes have always been a huge part of the GTA experience in every edition of the franchise, but GTA5’s soundtrack has been getting a special amount of attention for the sheer diversity of the music it contains. You’ll find rock, classics, rap… just about everything. And the new soundtrack set on Apple’s iTunes will give you a taste of all of it.

Volume 1 is all new music from a ‘wide array of artists’. Particularly cool about this album- it has the track Sleepwalking from Chain Gang of 1974, which was the song playing in the official trailer. Set 2 is titled ‘The Score’ and is just that, a compilation of the game’s interactive musical score that actually changes and adapts to the on-screen action as you play. Since the album isn’t what you’d call ‘interactive’, the tracks on this one were all mixed and arranged into actual songs by DJ and producer DJ Shadow. The original tunes that the songs in The Score are based on came out of a one time team-up between German electronic band Tangerine Dream, Woody Jackson (Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire) and renowned hip-hop producers The Alchemist and Oh No by the way- so this is good stuff.

Capping things off is the third volume of the soundtrack which features a selection of the licensed music from the game. There’s some big tracks on this one including stuff from Bob Seger, Waylon Jennings and Bootsy Collins.

Here’s the breakdown and the track list for each:
