Sega’s OutRun hits the 3DS, emphasis on the ‘3D’

The latest addition to the 3D Classics line, Sega’s arcade racer comes to Nintendo’s handheld.

Not that you can see it at all from that trailer, but if there’s a classic Sega game that would benefit from the 3DS’ signature hook, it’s probably OutRun. Originally released way back in 1986, (the now 3D) OutRun was designed by Sega royalty with the great Yu Suzuki. Simply put, the game’s a classic every sense, and has now been upgraded for Nintendo 3DS gamers.

3D OutRun actually runs at 60 fps (twice the speed of the arcade version), and features a stage select, the ability to save and resume games mid-level, a pair of new songs, adjustable difficulty, and an unlock able  customization option for your ride. Aside from all that, there’s the super-cool ability to select from several different, real world, arcade cabinets to frame the on-screen action. These cabinets are for more than show too, as actually feature the added sounds that you’d expect if you were sitting in one in real life.

Out right now for the 3DS via the eShop, Sega’s 3D OutRun is pretty much the definitive version of the game. And if you dig the game, and Sega in general, you could win yourself a Sega-branded hoodie. Click here for more info on how to enter the Sega Classics Contest.
