Fox finally set to move ahead with Channing Tatum Gambit movie

Fans of the Cajun X-Man rejoice (or not, depending), Gambit is heading to the big screen for a solo movie.

Actor Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe) has been lobbying for this one for a while now, and it looks like he’s finally got his wish. Although there are plenty of other, more popular X-Men characters for Fox to explore as a part of its growing X-Men Cinematic Universe, it’ll be Remy LeBeau that’ll be on the receiving end of the next feature film from the studio- and that particular movie will definitely be starring Mr.Tatum as the lead mutant.

With the ability to charge up any object with ‘kinetic energy’, and then use it offensively, Gambit is actually a pretty cool character and is easily one of the most recognizable X-Men thanks to his stint with the team during the iconic Jim Lee/Chris Claremont era in the Marvel Comics series. Sure he wasn’t all that great in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, that wasn’t really the greatest representation, and Days of Future Past kind of wiped the slate clean, so this’ll be a fresh start of sorts.

As of the rest of the X-Men universe, Deadpool is also very much on the blotter (starring Ryan Reynolds), and an X-Force film is also in the works alongside the next feature in the X-Men core franchise- Apocalypse. While some of those other films are somewhat nebulous at present in terms of launch, we’ve officially got a release date on Gambit (whose real title is still unknown). The movie will hit theaters on October 7th, 2016.

A date that, I assume, means that we can expect to hear and see a whole mess of Gambit-related stuff pretty soon.
