The Starship Troopers aren’t done yet. A just-revealed retro FPS is looking great, hailing from Dotemu and developed Auroch Digital.
We’re doing our part
Auroch Digital being the studio behind Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! is enough to get us interested. We admit it. If the name doesn’t ring a bell for you though, maybe the title of their hit retro-FPS will. That would be Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, by the way.
Yes, there’s actually another game in that series on the way, but that hasn’t stopped Auroch Digital from diving into the world of Starship Troopers. This just-announced title is also touted as a retro-themed first-person shooter too. But even so, it’s looking night and day different from what the company has done before.
The game picks up the action 25 years after the now-classic film, setting players in the boots of Samantha Dietz. Effectively an interactive look back at the past two and a half decades of war, fans will guide Dietz as she searches for the Assassin Bug. It’s sounding like quite a campaign too. The action will touch on Klendathu, the bug homeworld, but will hop to different planets as well.
Players will wield the Morita rifle on their quest, as a part of a 14 weapon deep arsenal. Oh, and did we mention the mech-suit? Yeah, there’s one of those too.
Set 25 years after the events of the original Starship Troopers film, this heroic campaign follows war veteran Samantha Dietz as she recounts her hunt for the dreadful Assassin Bug during the First Bug War. Relive her experiences as you annihilate the Arachnids on their familiar home world of Klendathu and journey to all new worlds like Planet P and beyond in this streamlined solo campaign, with access to a devastating arsenal of 14 weapons (including the iconic Morita rifle), 11 Tactical Supports and a Mech vehicle in a gloriously gory 3D pixelated combat simulation.

Play as the Bugs
Yes, that was actor Casper Van Dien in that trailer, as he reprises his role as Johnny Rico, who’s now a General. We’re not sure what capacity fans might be treated to Rico’s return for the game, but there’s one big surprise that we do know about, and it’s a first.
As you can see in the subheading above, Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! will actually allow players to take the battlefield as a Bug. Just what kind of Bug, or if there’ll be more than one, we’re not sure. That’s kind of besides the point though, because the thought in general is pretty darn cool regardless.
Citizens looking to prepare themselves to the fullest extent can utilize Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War!’s anti-bug combat training, where you can play from the perspective of the Bugs, and prepare for the skills they need to erase the insectoid threat.
Dotemu press release
Ready for war? Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! is en route to the PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 some time in early 2026.
