Survios’ revision of Alien: Rogue Incursion brings the action out of VR. With the game arriving this month, fans get one last launch look.
Yep, the horror of Alien seems intact
If you’re an Alien fan, there are certain things that you’d look for in a video game adaptation. And we mean of any part of the fiction. Yeah, the action is important, especially if you’re talking about something with colonial marines. Even bigger though, is something that games sometimes overlook. Yes, we mean the horror aspect.
Alien is a horror franchise after all. While gunplay is awesome, a game should at least make a stab at instilling some fear. If you’re not familiar with the name, developer Survios‘ Alien: Rogue Incursion looked to bring exactly that to virtual reality headsets not all that long ago. Now the game has returned however, and in revised form.
Alien: Rogue Incursion – Part One: Evolved Edition has burst out of VR, and it’s somehow looking even more terrifying than it already did. Along with a host of improvements over that original release, the developer says that the game serves up “the most lethal Xenomorphs players have ever encountered.”
From the looks of the trailer, we’re kind of hard-pressed to disagree.
In Alien: Rogue Incursion – Part One, players step into the boots of rogue Colonial Marine Zula Hendricks in the terrifying first chapter of an original two-part saga set between the Alien™ and Aliens™ films. While investigating a distress call on the remote planet Purdan, Zula uncovers a secret Gemini Exoplanet Solutions blacksite facility overrun by Xenomorphs. Aided by her synthetic companion, Davis 01, Zula must fight to survive against the ferocious and unpredictable threat of the Xenomorph incursion.
Survios press release
Terror rebuilt
If you played that virtual reality edition of the game, then you might have noticed a few differences between it and this upcoming release. According to the press release, the game has effectively been rebuilt for consoles and the PC. The bulk of that renovation? Yeah, it surrounds the Xenomorphs.
Alien: Rogue Incursion – Part One: Evolved Edition features creatures that are “smarter, faster, more adaptive, and harder to both predict and kill”. And if that’s not enough, the game sounds like it will look to significantly up the ante when it comes to a more cinematic experience. Survios says that fans can look for “upgraded visuals, 60 FPS, 3D audio”, plus some PlayStation 5-specifics upgrades. If you guessed that means “DualSense controller integration”, you’d be on target.
Not that the PS5 will be the only way to dig into this sci-fi/horror adventure. While Sony’s console and the PC were the originally announced platforms, Survios will be bringing the action to an even wider audience. That’s right, Xbox players will be able to take on the biomechanical hordes as well, with an Xbox Series X|S version.
All three of Alien: Rogue Incursion – Part One: Evolved Edition‘s new editions will launch day and date as well. Fans can look for it to hit this month, on September 30th. Sounds like it might be a sharp way to kick off spooky season.
