It’s hard to believe Nintendo only has one retail store in the US, but that’s set to change this spring with the opening of a San Francisco locale.
Bicoastal
So when was the last time that Nintendo opened a retail outlet in America? Well, you’d have to go back a shockingly long time, all the way to 2001. Originally known as the Pokemon Center, Nintendo New York opened for business in November of that year, and has held fast ever since, serving up a selection of games and goodies/collectibles featuring the global brand.
Now Nintendo is set to take things bicoastal, with Nintendo San Francisco. And according to the company, Californian fans will be able to look for much of what makes the Rockefeller Center store such a hit. That will include consoles and games of course, but also “a unique shopping experience filled with Nintendo’s characters, worlds and exclusive products including accessories, apparel, home goods and souvenirs available only at this location”, according to the company.
When it does open up in San Fran, cracking its doors for the first time this May the 15th, fans will be able to find the shop in the city’s Union Square, at 331 Powell Street. And if you’re itching to go, you might want to join the sweepstakes and get a chance to be one of the very first customers.
Rolling right now, the “My Nintendo™ x Nintendo SAN FRANCISCO Sweepstakes” will grant the winner (and two guests) a three-night, four-day trip to San Francisco, plus a tour of the new shop during the launch event.
