The Occultist casts a new release date, bringing first-person horror in 2026

You’ll have to wait just a bit longer for the terrors of The Occultist, as the first-person adventure has been delayed into next year.

Delayed horror is still horror

We first told you about The Occultist a short time back. Featuring a first-person viewpoint, the horror game hails from Daedalic Entertainment and developer DALOAR, and sends players on a harrowing quest through “the cursed island” of Godstone.

Just because it’s in first-person though, don’t look for blazing action. Instead The Occultist will set players in the boots of a paranormal investigator named Alan Rebels. And his only ‘weapon’? That’d be a pendulum with mystic abilities, all of which he’ll need if he intends to solve this adventure’s puzzles and survive, while uncovering the supernatural mysteries in front of him.

In The Occultist, players will step into the shoes of Alan Rebels as he embarks on a harrowing journey to the enigmatic island of Godstone, determined to uncover the truth behind his father’s mysterious disappearance. Equipped with his mystical pendulum, Alan must navigate the foggy streets and eerie buildings of Godstone, a place once home to a notorious cult known for its disturbing experiments and rituals.

Daedalic Entertainment press release

Maybe it’s the score, but we can’t help but get a very ‘Burton-esque’ vibe from this game. To put it mildly though, we’re hyped to see what The Occultist has in store. But if you’re in the same rickety boat as us, we’ve all got a tad longer of a wait.

While the game never had an official release date, Daedalic originally had listed it with a “2025” launch in mind. That though, and as you can see, isn’t going to happen. Instead, the publisher has nudged the game back and into 2026, when it’ll launch for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
