Capcom reveals a new look at Monster Hunter Wilds, plus Open Beta Test 2 news

It was a big day for Capcom fans, with loads of news about some of the company’s biggest properties, plus a surprise launch.

Monster Hunter Wilds

Almost as storied a franchise as any other under Capcom’s umbrella, Monster Hunter is on the verge of another entry. That would be Monster Hunter Wilds, and today producer Ryozo Tsujimoto presented fans with a showcase that came complete with new details, info about the Open Beta Test, and yes, a new trailer.

The new look at the game in action showed off the Iceshard Cliffs, a new location, and a new monster with the airborne Hirabami. That’s not all though, as fans got a look at returning favorites like Nerscylla and Gore Magala.

If you’re significantly hyped after watching that, you might want to know when you’ll be able to dive into the Open Beta Test. That’ll actually be later this month, with Open Beta Test 2 bringing participants the ability to tackle returning monster Gypceros, plus check out the Base Camp’s Training Area, and online features like Private Lobbies and Online Single Player mode.

Capcom says that, like with the first Open Beta, Open Beta Test 2 will include “character creation with transferable data, a story mission, and free-roaming hunts with cross-platform multiplayer”. So it does sound like you’ll get to experience a decent amount of what the final game will offer. Just a note though, as the Open Beta Test 2 won’t have the performance and balancing adjustments that Capcom revealed.

Additional Monster Hunter Wilds news and notes included the reveal of a Photo Mode, “customization options”, and PS5 Pro support. Fans who own that latest Sony console will find it supported right from the game’s launch, with it taking advantage of both “ray tracing and PlayStation® Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR)”.

Monster Hunter Wilds arrives for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 28th. It looks like fans will be kept busy when it does land too, as Capcom adds that post-launch support will be immediate. Look for limited-time event quests to be “introduced with special armor that players can earn as rewards”.
