The long-running racer returns for consoles and the PC today, as Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is finally here.
Testing, testing
Believe it or not, it’s been 13 years since there was a Test Drive Unlimited title available on any platform. Thanks to NACON and developer KT Racing though, that drought is over, with the newly-launched Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. As fans will see, this new game looks to redefine Test Drive, as a “Massively Open Online Racing game (M.O.O.R.)”.
The title will star a Hong Kong island as a playground, and it’s reportedly 1:1 in terms of scale, with 14 districts to explore, challenges to tackle, and even a story to play through. It certainly seems as though there’s a lot to this one, but aside from whatever else it might be, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown looks undeniably great.
“On behalf of the KT Racing team, we’d like to thank all our players for their enthusiasm for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown since its announcement. We’re extremely proud of the work accomplished, and hope that racing fans will enjoy rediscovering the DNA of this iconic license. Today marks the beginning of a great adventure for many years to come, and we look forward to racing around Hong Kong Island with the players”
Guillaume Guinet, Game Director of TDUSC
Pretty sharp, huh? Well, if you’re into the way Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown looks, then you’ll want to know that NACON is tagging it as a “game-as-a-service” as well. And as you might’ve guessed, that shakes out to mean that Test Drive Solar Crown will be getting “extensive follow-up and regular updates” after launch.
Players can expect to see additional content and even game modes, all delivered as a part of the game’s “season system”. That roadmap will deliver not just bug fixes and quality of life improvements, but also new events and more, to keep things fresh.
If you’re ready to rev that engine, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is ready to roll as of right now, and is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
