IDW announces new Ninja Turtles board games for 2019

Not the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game from IDW, TMNT Adventures might be the coolest yet. The miniatures-based title is actually split into two new adventures.

Adventures in mutation

Apparently there was a game in the line from IDW that did have miniatures already. Called Shadows of the Past, that original game will serve as the basis for what’s next. That being a pair of fresh adventures in Change is Constant and City Fall.

Playable in both 4 on 1 and co-op styles, TMNT Adventures comes from the mind of Kevin Wilson, who created that earlier volume. Also in on things are Pete Walsh and Dan Lansdowne, who were involved in Shadows of the Past’s online community. This time around they’re actually lending their hands to the design. And yes, that includes creation of full-on “AI” systems that allow for co-op play.

A total of “30 new unique miniature sculpts and iconic art” will be spread out across the two games. That’s pretty impressive, given that they don’t seem like huge games. As with other IDW offerings too, this title will head to Kickstarter first.

Here’s IDW Publishing’s VP of New Product Development, Jerry Bennington, talking a bit about what’s coming up.

“We want to use Kickstarter as a way to bring the fun of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures to more fans and gamers, while allowing us to create even more components and elements for the game that would not be possible through regular retail release,” says Jerry Bennington. “This will be the first in a series of Adventures-branded miniatures games that will bring some of the industry’s most iconic properties to the tabletop, so fans will have a lot to look forward to through 2019.”
