Strafe lives as throwback FPS arrives today

Party like it’s 1996 all over again, as Strafe is now available on PC and PS4. What’s all the fuss about? Click through and check out why this FPS is a love letter to the 90s.

With a mode called “Murderzone”, you know this is gonna be good

So, if you couldn’t tell, the vid above was a mock-trailer for a movie version of Strafe. Don’t worry though, that (thankfully) (probably) isn’t a real thing. I think it’s safe to say though, that the sensibilities that developer Pixel Titans is going for with the game itself most definitely comes though.

I mean, there was enough in-game stuff in there that you can get a definite sense of what the game will offer. That being buckets of blood and gore, and plenty of oddball enemies to shoot at. And as someone who played through a good chunk of what the 90s had to offer in the way of PC FPS’, well I have to say it looks spot on.

Pixely 3D graphics aside though, Strafe is a rogue-like at heart, and randomly generates levels as you play. And yes, that means it won’t play the same way twice. Pretty slick for a first-person shooter. Perhaps all of this can be best summed up by publisher Devolver Digital’s CEO Fork Parker though.

He adds ““STRAFE® changes everything you’ve ever known or will know about STRAFE®,” … “It’s the next generation of the last generation and we’re not all that sure gamers will be able to handle that sort of power.”

I agree completely. Strafe is available now on the PC, Mac, and PS4.
