Mega Man: Dual Override gets 2027 launch, opens up design contest

If you missed the news, Mega Man is set to return to consoles and the PC. But that’s not all, as there’s a contest to talk about too.

Mega Man is back

Indeed, Mega Man is coming back, and with a whole new adventure. Capcom revealed that much last week, during The Game Awards show, with the debut of the first trailer. Maybe more of a tease than a full on look at the game, it nonetheless let fans in on a few particulars.

First, and probably most importantly, this is a game in the series’ classic style. Mega Man: Dual Override is a side-scrolling action title, with what certainly seems to be all the gameplay that fans of the games would expect. That said though, it’s also not a retro title in any way. This new offering will look thoroughly modern, with a bright and colorful futuristic world to jump, slide, and blast through.

Just what the “Dual Override” subtitle means is still a mystery however. Capcom didn’t have much to say about the game during the aforementioned event, and really still doesn’t. That’s to say that the press release that we received doesn’t expend on what’s been shown to date.

If you didn’t see that trailer that we were talking about though, you can find that below.

Mega Man: Dual Override arrives in 2027 for the Switch 2/Switch, PS5/PS4, Xbox Series X|S/Xbox One, and the PC (via Steam). During this reveal period too, fans who haven’t picked up Mega Man 11 yet can do so at a major discount. It looks like the sale will be wrapping up soon, but as of right now you can still buy a copy for just $4.49 USD for almost every platform.

The deal has already ended on the PlayStation, but the sale price lives for a tad longer elsewhere. The Xbox Store’s deal ends tomorrow, while the Nintendo eShop’s will close on January 2nd, 2026 (at 2:59am EST). And as for Steam? PC players can nab the discount for another 44 hours (as of this writing).

About that contest…

So yeah, there isn’t a ton out and about right now, as goes the actual game. But even so, there is a little more that we can share with you. Namely, that there’s a contest that’s being held right now, and it’s one that longtime Mega-fans might want to check out.

We’ll start this out with a question though, and that’d be ‘have you ever wanted to design a Robot Master?’ Yep, that’s the deal in Capcom’s Mega Man: Dual Override contest, which tasks fans with crafting their own boss for Mega Man to take on.

Now, there are some caveats to this one. As you can see in the trailer for the contest, there’s a Robot Master already on the drawing board, and he’s… unique. This bot has a right arm that really sucks. And we mean that as in it has “immense suction powers”, according to Doc Wiley himself.

So with that, the contest isn’t to come up with a wholly original robot, but one that incorporates the mentioned gimmick. And yes, the Grand Prize winner that’s chosen will have their design featured in Mega Man: Dual Override. There are also spots for six runner’s up, all of which will have their names included in the game’s credits.

If you’d like to try your hand, the competition will be open through January 1st, 2026, at 11:59pm pacific time. Submissions are being collected via X, and you can check out the full rules on the official website, here.
