It’s back. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition hits Switch 2

Just when you thought that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was done with re-releases, it’s back. And this time it’s on Switch 2.

Skyrim, complete and Nintendo-enhanced

Yes, it’s true, Skyrim is back. Almost 15 years after its original release, Bethesda’s ubiquitous RPG is back as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition. The new version of the game, which just drops today, is exclusive to the Switch 2, and includes the complete adventure. Actually, even more.

The new launch includes the base title, plus the DawnguardDragonborn, and Hearthfire expansions. Not op of that, there’s also a host of The Legend of Zelda content, like the Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and Champion’s Tunic. On the more technical side, players can “experience enhanced resolution, improved load times, performance optimization, Joy-Con 2 mouse support, motion controls, Amiibo support, and more, taking full advantage of the platform’s hardware”.

Paths back to the north

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is out today as a standalone purchase. That’s not the only way to buy into this massive adventure though, especially for those who’ve set foot in its frosted world before.

According to the press release, fans who already own a copy of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition for the original Switch, are in for a dragon-sized treat. That would be a free upgrade to this new Switch 2 version. Yep, it’s on the longhouse.

Now, if you don’t have the Anniversary Edition, but you do have the original release of Skyrim (also on the first Switch console) you also have a bit of a bonus. That comes in the form of a discount on the new release. Fans who have a copy of that base game will get the new Switch 2 release for only $19.99 USD. Not bad, since the actual price is a full $59.99 USD.
