It’s all-out, arcade-fueled action with the new Fast & Furious: Arcade Edition. The racer comes home today for consoles.
Do it Fast, do it Furious
We’re pretty sure that everyone on Earth knows Fast & Furious by now. Believe it or not, the long-lived and car-centric action series from Universal has scooped up over 7 billion at the box office over the years. So to say it’s got an audience, is kind of putting it mildly. While that might be true though, the series has also had painfully few video game adaptations. We can actually only remember one.
Releasing in the arcades way back in 2004, The Fast & The Furious was one of those. The title never got a home adaptation however, which is a little weird when you consider the franchise’s rampant popularity. Nevertheless, there was no way to play it in any other form than on a cabinet. And yes, you know what’s coming next, as we add ‘until now’ to that previous sentence.
Just released today is Fast & Furious: Arcade Edition, which looks to plunk players behind the wheel of the game’s “Dodge Charger, Corvette Z06, Shelby GT500 KR, Ford GT, Bronco DR, Jeep Wrangler, and more.” Hailing from Cradle Games and publisher GameMill Entertainment, in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, the title sounds like it might be a fairly direct adaptation.
Fast & Furious returns
Once picking one of the above-mentioned rides, fans will race through a series of locales. Those reportedly include all of the original arcade tracks too. But this isn’t a straight-up racer, as there are also a host of “bonus challenges” you can take while speeding around.
Events like stopping rogue missiles in the Alps and grounding planes in Hong Kong are on board. Add secret shortcuts, destructible environments and more, and you have the making of what at least sound like they might be some interesting courses.
And while there’s no online multiplayer included, Fast & Furious: Arcade Edition does include split-screen play. That might be fun if you’re looking to recreate the original experience at home, but it’ll undoubtably be a bummer for fans who’d prefer to take the action online.
Fast & Furious: Arcade Edition delivers high-speed racing and pedal-to-the-metal action straight from the arcade to consoles! Hit the road in eight legendary supercars, including the Dodge Charger, Corvette Z06, Shelby GT500 KR, Ford GT, Bronco DR, Jeep Wrangler and more – plus customize your car with unique color schemes.
Compete across each of the original arcade game’s tracks solo or in split-screen with a friend and discover destructible environments, branching paths, and stealth shortcuts that can turn the tide in an instant. Take on thrilling challenges with high-stakes objectives like intercepting a missile in the Swiss Alps or grounding a plane in the heart of Hong Kong!
