Turbo Overkill surprise-launches Ultimate Edition on consoles

Apogee Entertainment and Trigger Happy’s insane cyberpunk FPS gets Ultimate. Turbo Overkill: Ultimate Edition is out right now.

(Johnny) Turbo Overkill

Released on the PC in 2023 to raves from the press and genre fans alike, developer Trigger Happy’s Turbo Overkill now brings its Ultimate Edition to consoles. But before we get to the nitty-gritty of that though, let’s drop a little refresher on the base game.

The first-person shooter centers on Johnny Turbo, a bounty hunter who’s found himself in Paradise. That’s the name of the city anyway, though this cyber-burgh is anything but its namesake. On the contrary, the mega-city has been dominated by a rogue AI, and its army of mutant creeps. So what’s a bounty hunter to do? Well, pretty much rev up his chainsaw leg and get to work.

If you’re thus far unfamiliar, Turbo Overkill was already a massive title. The campaign offered up 24 stages of action, packed with “secrets, bonus arena stages, and white-knuckle combat puzzles”. And all of that’s wrapped up in a semi-retro package, adorned with a neon bow.

It’s Ultimate time

Publisher Apogee touts Turbo Overkill as its most “outrageous FPS since Duke Nukem 3D“. It’s easy to see why, since the game is gloriously over the top. We gave the Early Access version an 83% back in 2022, and that wasn’t anywhere near the complete edition that’s out now.

According to Apogee, Turbo Overkill: Ultimate Edition both celebrates both the title’s action-packed legacy, and “a massive FREE quality-of-life update”. The latter is arriving for all players, regardless of platform or edition, and loads up on player-requested improvements.

Fans can look for new controller configuration options to be among them, including gyro and adaptive trigger support for the PS5. Additionally, console versions of the game will now have all of the PC version’s post-launch patches. And yes, that includes the “Enhanced Visuals” update. But hang on, because there’s even more.

Along with all of the above, the Ultimate Edition of the game also includes some cool bonuses. A 140-page digital art book in onboard for this new offering, plus a soundtrack sampler. As an additional bonus too, the Turbo Overkill: Original Syn digital prequel comic is now free to read in-game.

Turbo Overkill: Ultimate Edition is available now for the PC (via Steam, GOG, and Epic Game Store), PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S, and Switch. While the price of entry is $24.99 USD, there’s also an upgrade availer for those who already have a retail copy of the base game. Those who want to boost their copies up to the Ultimate Edition level can do so for $4.99 USD.
