Techland is back with another zombie retrospective. This time the developer runs back 110 years of pop culture rotters.
Shuffling dead
Who remembers Techland’s last page through the annals of pop culture history, when the game developer showcased a century of the undead? If you don’t recall that one, you can watch the original video here. You might want to skip it though, because the company is back at it once again, and this one new presentation is even better.
From the age of the voodoo zombie to the 90s viral undead and on to the fast and heavily mutated rotters of today, this video has it all. The full undead story is told by a talented crew of makeup artists and actors, complete with some cool locations.
A mini zombie retrospective? Yeah, kind of.
Now an undeniable anchor of pop culture, Techland enlisted talented makeup artists and actors to represent the ways the undead have been represented throughout the history of movies, TV, and video games. See interpretations of the undead from the early days of voodoo zombies to making tributes to creative modern takes on the living dead appear in the (decaying) flesh.
Techland press release
More zombies to come
The above featurette comes as the latest game in Techland’s Dying Light series is about to hit consoles and the PC. This new game brings back original series hero Kyle Crane, albeit in a fresh and new way. As those who’ve been following along with the game’s launch reveals know, Kyle’s not quite the mane he was.
Experimented on for a decade by the villainous Baron, Kyle has powers and abilities that tread the line between man and monster. Combined with a frothing rage, his evolution has made him more than a match for human or undead.
The game will be out very soon too, so if you’ve been itching to smash (for blast) some zombies, your time is approaching. Fans will be able to dig back into the series when Dying Light: The Beast arrives for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 19th, 2025.
