From the Delta Quadrant and all the way back to Earth, players can relive the show’s harrowing tale in Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown.
The voyage home
It might be kind of hard to imagine now, but back in the 1990s, Star Trek was pretty darned hot. The movies and TV’s Next Generation lite a fire under the brand in the previous decade, which carried over into a shared universe of television including Deep Space Nine and, eventually, Voyager.
The latter show was a little different than the others though, in that it wasn’t set in traditional Federation space. Instead, Star Trek Voyager starred a marooned ship and her crew, all of which were stranded on the other side of the galaxy. This basically cut away all vestiges of what Trek fans ‘knew’, and let the creative team go crazy with (mostly) new elements.
While that show has been explored in video games before, its never had one like the just revealed Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown. Sounding like it might entice any fan of the property, the upcoming strategy title from Daedalic Entertainment and developer gameXcite will allow players to relive the Voyager’s entire trip from that far-off quadrant. That’s not all though, as along with reliving the trip, players will also be able to alter it.
Fans will travel across 12 sectors of the Delta Quadrant in the roguelike, so its core will be true no matter how you play. But although there’ll be familiar faces (and we presume events) here and there, how the overall journey takes place will be largely up to what choices are made.
“Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown is a project driven by passion—both for storytelling and for the legacy of Star Trek,” says Jonas Hüsges, COO at Daedalic Entertainment. “We’re excited to bring the U.S.S. Voyager crew back into the spotlight in a way that feels true to canon while offering new narrative frontiers to explore.”
“As lifelong fans of Star Trek, we’re thrilled to contribute to this iconic universe,” adds Daniel Bernard, Game Director at gameXcite. “This game isn’t just about nostalgia—it’s about giving players the conn and letting them chart their own course through the unknown.”
