Shinobi: Art of Vengeance DLC brings Sonic’s Eggman and two more guest villains

No, this isn’t a hoax or an imaginary tale, Doctor Eggman himself is coming to Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. And he’s not alone.

Where’s his mean bean machine though?

There might be some very cool crossovers inbound, because Sega is bringing a selection of its “legendary” villains to Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. Now this wouldn’t be the first time that the Shinobi series has had guest-villains, that’s for sure, but it just might be the first that those guests aren’t riffs.

If you haven’t been following the game’s progress, the upcoming side-scrolling actioner will bring the series back to its roots for what looks like a sharp return to form. And as of today’s news, we know that it’ll be serving up some pre-order, villain-specific, downloadable content to boot.

The trio of DLC villains are still mostly shrouded in secrecy, though we know the first one. You might call him a few different names, but in Shinobi, he’s Eggman. Yes, the Sonic the Hedgehog arch-villain is spreading out, taking on the ninja Joe Musashi. He and the additional two guest foes that are yet to be revealed will be included in the SEGA Villains Stage DLC.

While we don’t have a first-look to show you as pertains to Eggman, we do have some more announcements. For one thing, there’s Young Dirty Bastard x SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance. The second-generation rapper is debuting “The Path Just Begun”, a new song that’ll start streaming as of August 21st. How’s that tie into Shinobi? Easy actually, as Sega will have a special Shinobi: Art of Vengeance trailer to go along with it, complete with YDB’s beats. And did we mention that there’s a special Shinobi apparel lineup that’s launched too, from YDB’s Dirty Magic brand? You can find that here.

Before we go, there’s one more Shinobi-related thing. Launched this past weekend, SpeedRun.com’s “week-long speedrunning challenge” celebrates SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance by tasking players with blasting through SHINOBI III: Return of the Ninja Master and the demo of SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance as fast as they can. Check it out and see if you’d like to take part, here.
