Get a taste of 2D ninjitsu, with the just-dropped demo for Shinobi: Art of Vengeance

Sega’s Shinobi revival is set to slice into consoles and PC next month, but you can try it right now with a downloadable demo.

Just a hint of ninjitsu

Fans of Sega’s classic action/platformer series Shinobi certainly have what looks to be a side-scrolling treat on the horizon with Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. The latest game in the long-running series returns the property to its roots behind Lizardcube, the developer who produced the old school action gem, Streets of Rage 4.

According to Sega, fans can look for the game to include “larger-than-life bosses, a deep combat system, and smooth, satisfying gameplay”. But while it sounds great, you can actually play it right now too, and see what it’s like for yourself.

That’s thanks to a just-dropped demo, which includes the first stage of the game, Oboro Village. There fans will battle foes and make their way around obstacles, as well as get a feel for gameplay that won’t actually be available until later in the full game’s campaign.

In the free demo, players can explore the first stage of the game, Oboro Village, battling enemies and traversing platforming obstacles through stunning hand-drawn environments. Once you’ve conquered the stage, push your skills further by replaying it – aim for the highest score in Arcade Mode and uncover hidden paths. To provide players a more exciting experience, the demo unlocks certain gameplay abilities that are normally obtained later in the full game.

Sega press release

Ready to play? The demo for Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is out right now for the PS4/PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch. As for the full the game, that arrives for all of the above platforms in about a month, on August 29th.
