Get ready to wield the Psychogun, as Space Adventure Cobra is set to crash both consoles and the PC next month.
Love that red suit
Hailing from the early 80s, Space Adventure Cobra presented the adventures of an interstellar adventurer by the name of Cobra. A man with a penchant for cigars and a cybernetic arm, the tough-talking hero took on an array of sci-fi foes with his powerful Psychogun.
Although the show gained a cult following in the decades since its debut, the property itself hasn’t been seen in any major media for a while. That’s to say, until now. Just revealed, publisher Microids and development studio Magic Pockets are bringing Cobra back as a video game, in side-scrolling action form.
Space Adventure Cobra – The Awakening will put players in the hero’s boots for an adaptation of the show’s first 12 episodes. The title will include appearances by characters like the Royal Sisters plus Cobra’s arch-foe Crystal Bowie, for one or two player action spread out across various planets.
And lest you think otherwise, Cobra will indeed be armed with his iconic weaponry. If you were looking for the Psychogun, you’re going to be able to use it, but don’t forget the mighty Colt Python 77 either, in addition to “gadgets like the cigar and the grappling hook”.
The game Space Adventure Cobra – The Awakening promises to stay true to the spirit of the 1982 animated series while delivering an immersive and modern experience, specially designed for long-time fans as well as a new generation of players. With graphics that remain faithful to the anime’s spirit, dynamic gameplay, and a carefully crafted narrative, this game is set to be a vibrant tribute to Buichi Terasawa’s work, while allowing players to immerse themselves in Cobra’s fascinating and dangerous universe.
