Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound inbound for release next month

The ninja of Dotemu and developer The Game Kitchen’s Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound will be ready to strike in July.

Heat up the summer with some ninjitsu

On the way for the full slate of modern consoles (outside of a dedicated Switch 2 version), is Dotemu and The Game Kitchen’s new 2D take on the legendary Ninja Gaiden. We’re not completely sure, but this might but this might be the first such title to see release in the franchise since the NES titles of the 80s.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is looking pretty sharp as well, and seems like a game that’ll have genre fans moving. Today’s trailer showcases lots of fast action, environmental hazards, and deadly enemies, but also some soundtrack news. While the OST is led by Blasphemous’ Sergio de Prado, there will be be a trio of guest composers, in the form of Keiji Yamagishi, Ryuichi Niita, and Kaori Nakabai. And if those names sound familiar, it might be because all of them worked on the soundtracks for the original NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy.

How’s that for a little extra cool?

NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound begins immediately after the opening moments of the original NES NINJA GAIDEN. The veil between the human and demon realms has broken, leaving the world linked with a gate to darkness. Since Ryu Hayabusa leaves the Hayabusa Village to avenge his father, Kenji Mozu, a fledgling Hayabusa Clan Ninja central to NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound, must rise to slay the forces of evil.

Kenji’s destiny is intertwined with Kumori, a fearsome new kunoichi hailing from the antagonistic Black Spider Clan central to the NINJA GAIDEN series. Kenji and Kumori must overcome the generational grudges between their clans and use forbidden techniques to merge their powers and survive the battles ahead, binding their fates together to share a test of soul and skill while maximizing their talents.

Kenji and Kumori’s high-stakes quest develops with show-stopping fights against powerful, boss-caliber behemoths. With upgradable abilities, hidden collectibles, unlockable secret missions, optional challenges and more, NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound is an engrossing modernization of the tense, satisfyingly swift battles and precise, skill-demanding platforming the series is known for.

Dotemu press release

As we mentioned too, there is another piece of news included in today’s drop, and that’s Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound‘s release date. Fans will be able to take the fight to the demon realm when the game arrives for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on July 31st.

If you’d like to play before then, and you’ve got a PC, you’ll be able to dig into a special Steam demo that’ll be playable during Steam Next Fest, running July 9th though the 16th.
