Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 1 arrives The Elder Scrolls Online on PC

Update 46 takes The Elder Scrolls Online players back to a storyline that started a decade ago, for the Seasons of the Worm Cult.

To war

So this might be something of a standout update, even in the realm of The Elder Scrolls Online and the myriad of new quests and updates that it’s had since launch. Officially dubbed Update 46, the free new arrival for the long-lived MMO ushers in something called Seasons of the Worm Cult.

Part 1 of a new two part tale, the expansion actually harkens all the way back to the base game. That’s right, this is an adventure ten years in the making, as Seasons of the Worm Cult part 1 brings the deadly cult back to the fore, along with a trip to Solstice island.

While it’s inarguably the main event for the Update, Seasons of the Worm Cult part 1 is hardly all that’s arriving with The Elder Scrolls Online‘s Update 46. A host of new inclusions will be accompanying the story content, as Sega says to looks for “greater character customization”, quality of life updates, and maybe most importantly, “a new re-entry experience for returning players”. With a game that’s gotten as big as The Elder Scrolls Online, that sounds like a very good thing indeed.

Check out the new story arc in action below.

As mentioned, there’s quite a bit to Update 46 outside of the story content, so scroll on down the page to get the full skinny. If you’re playing on the PC, you’re ready to roll Sentinel island as of today. But don’t worry if you’re playing on a console, since that’s not far off either. Fans can look for Update 46 to hit for the Xbox and Playstation editions of The Elder Scrolls Online on June 18th.

In the meantime too, publisher Bethesda points out A Guild in Crisis, which is actually a prologue to Seasons of the Worm Cult, and should be playable now. There players can join Prince Azah of Sentinel, to “gather allies and uncover the truth behind the Worm Cult’s resurgence.”

Seasons of the Worm Cult
In this two-part adventure continuing ESO’s original main quest storyline, the dreaded Worm Cult has taken over the east of Solstice island and is concealing their activities behind the massive and magical Writhing Wall. Players arrive on the tropical island in Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 1 to explore the Western Solstice zone—there is no shortage of action and rewards to uncover with new World Bosses, Delves, a Public Dungeon, and a brand-new Trial: the Ossein Cage.

Subclassing
With the new Subclassing system, all ESO players can further customize their characters and play their way. Starting today, this feature allows players to replace up to two of their character’s skill lines with those from other classes, offering greater flexibility and creativity in gameplay. Hero’s Return
Also free with this update, those jumping back into ESO after a long respite can now seamlessly reintegrate in with the Hero’s Return system. Completing this adventure will unlock unique Login Rewards and the Hero’s Return Golden Pursuit, where they can secure additional resources.

Update 46
Update 46 introduces additional base game quality-of-life improvements including an updated in-game map, making traversing Tamriel easier than ever, and updated tutorials for the Wayshrine system. More details on Update 46 can be found here
