Grappling hooks, swords, and straight up ninja magic, here’s a look at Shinobi: Art of Vengeance’s action

Sega’s upcoming Shinobi revival is looking to serve up fast and brutal action, complete with blades and the mystic arts.

Watch the shuriken

To date, we’ve seen a fair bit of Sega and developer Lizardcube’s ninjitsu-reboot, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. The latest trailer though, showcases pure action, and is loaded up with both a display of the various methods of traversal that’ll be in the game, and a good helping of foe-smashing arts.

To the former, fans can look for grappling hooks, climbing claws, and even gliders. And the latter? There the methods you’ll use to take out enemy ninja include swords and shuriken, but there’ll also be a healthy dose of magic. Both Ninpo and Ninjitsu techniques will be included in Joe’s arsenal as players tackle the game’s side-scrolling stages, some of which will fill the screen and put a serious hurt on the bad guys.

SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance is heading to the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and Steam later this year, on August 29th. While pre-orders are open now, Sega says that the digital version for the Switch isn’t quite ready for that yet. The publisher says to look for that to appear on the Nintendo eShop “at a later date”.

A note on those pre-orders too, as those who do secure their copy ahead of launch will be in for both a discount and a bonus goodie. To that end, pre-ordering will nab a cool 10% off the final retail price, plus the Original Arcade Outfit and Fortune Hunter Amulet.
