Ork-centric racer Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks is heading to the starting line, and it’s a fair shake different now.
Ch-ch-ch-changes
Are you familiar with Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks? Launched into Early Access a while ago, the game was originally a free-to-play combat racer that starred the far future’s nastiest green-skins, the Orks. But that was then, and as of this month, the game’s getting a pretty big overhaul.
The changes come as Caged Element makes a (promised seamless) shift in publishers, from PLAION to Wired Productions. If the latter name rings a bell, it’s probably because the developer last worked with Wired Productions on GRIP: Combat Racing. And the planned alterations look to be kind of night and day as to what the final version of the title will offer.
First of all, Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks will no longer be free-to-play once it hits version 1.0. And along with that, micro-transactions will be eliminated, with the game moving to a more traditional approach. And by that, we mean it’ll be offering DLC packs for infusions of new content. Also, as for the 250k players who’ve already got copies of that former version of the game, they’re in for a big treat.
Not only will current fans still able to spend any earned in-game currency (for a period of 12 months), but all Early Access players will get bumps up to the new premium version. And yes, that’ll be for free, and is set to happen as soon Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks migrates out of Early Access.
Here’s a deeper look at what the title will bring to the track in the meantime:
Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks is the adrenaline-fueled combat racer set in the brutal Warhammer 40,000 universe! Drive ferocious vehicles equipped with powerful weapons and abilities into a full-throttle battle to the death. You’ll find that Speed Freeks is a fresh, Ork-y take on vehicle combat that you’ve never seen before. WAAAGHHHHH
