It’s the 80s and crime is out of control in the open-world actioner The Precinct, hitting consoles and the PC today.
Paging Charles Bronson
If you remember the heyday of the 1980s, then you likely remember the onslaught of cop flicks that hit the big screen. The likes of Death Wish and Dirty Harry set a stage that sent viewers on trips through the mean streets, solving crimes and taking out the bad guys. While there aren’t a ton of video games that take advantage of that rich setting, Kwalee and Fallen Tree Games are seeking to right that particular wrong.
The result is The Precinct, an open-world action title that gives players a 3/4 view on the grim and gritty streets of Averno City. Players are set in the shoes of rookie cop Nick Cordell Jr., who’s fresh out of the academy and ready to tackle the criminal element. But that’s not all that occupies Nick’s mind, as he’s also on the lookout to solve a specific murder, that of his own father.
You are Officer Nick Cordell Jr. As a rookie beat cop fresh out of the Academy, you’re on the front line of defence for Averno’s citizens. Dive into a world of thrilling car chases, sandbox crimes, and a healthy dose of 1980s noir as you protect the populace and solve the mystery of your father’s murder in the line of duty.
Kwalee press release
Publisher Kwalee says that The Precinct takes place in a “vibrant, living city”, with both day/night and weather cycles, where players are able to explore on foot, by car, and even via helicopter. It sounds like there’s a lot of leeway given as to how to play, as the game serves up vehicular chases, crimes that cover everything from “parking violations to gang shootouts”, and some so-called “dark conspiracies” that keep the gangs in control of the city.
Up for a little 80s noir? The Precinct is out now for the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. Physical editions of the game are also in stores as of today for both console editions, thanks to a deal with Microids.
