Far Cry 4 gets a surprise boost to 60fps on current-gen consoles

A favorite in a series that’s had a few, Ubisoft has just announced that Far Cry 4 got a bump up to 60fps via a free update.

Return to Kyrat

Released way back in the fall of 2014, Far Cry 4 brought series fans more of what they look for in Ubisoft’s premier open-world action series. The first-person shooter sent players to the fictional country of Kyrat for its fourth volume, where they went head-to-head with a vicious king with a fondness for pink suits.

While the series has certainly rolled on since then, seeing Far Cry 6 as its most recent edition, Ubisoft is digging back into the series’ past for a surprise update. Following along with the updating of Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate late last year, Far Cry 4 now has a bit of a graphical boost for modern consoles.

The Xbox Series X|S and PS5 (plus the PS5 Pro) are the recipients of that kick in the pants, which brings the game up to 60fps. So if you’re down for another trip to Kyrat, or you’re thinking about diving into Far Cry 4 for the first time, you’ll be able to do so in buttery smooth visual fashion.

The update also isn’t all the Far Cry news for today, as Ubi also revealed that Far Cry 4 would be coming to Game Pass. Subscribers will be able to play the game “very soon”, according to the publisher, via all three of the platform’s methods (Xbox, PC, and cloud streaming)

Don’t sweat it if you don’t have Game Pass, or you’re playing on a PS5, however. In addition to the above, it’s also been announced that Far Cry 4 is on sale. Both the PlayStation Store (April 23 – May 7) and the Ubisoft Store for the PC (April 29 – May 20) have special pricing running right now, with the Xbox joining in tomorrow (April 20th), with it’s own deal that ends on May 5th.
