As Frozen Empire freezes theaters over, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed heats up for Year 2

Did you think the book was closed on Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed? Well not so fast, as the multiplayer title is just getting started.

Bustin’. It makes me feel good.

Developer Illfonic isn’t solely focusing on Predator: Hunting Grounds support, as Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will continue to see the same, thanks to the newly detailed Year 2. Fans can expect much of what they saw in the first season of content continue, though with a partial Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire twist.

That, naturally, will come in the way of the very first free serving of downloadables, set to arrive this spring. Fans can look for new big-bad Garraka to be playable there, before things move into a celebration of the original movie’s 40th anniversary this summer.

The asymmetrical multiplayer action will then shift into a courthouse setting for some Double Trouble (hmm) in the fall, before the chill of winter brings a “special ghost” that’s yet to be announced. And of course, all of the above will be boosted by accompanying drops like gear, cosmetics, and special Twitch arrivals.

“We have been so focused on building an immersive world, one fans would recognize and appreciate,” remarks Jared Gerritzen, Chief Creative Officer at IllFonic. “Our goal now is to double down on the feel. As a long-time Ghostbusters fan, I want to feel immersed. Our drive for DLC year two: heighten the fun, heighten the experience.”

While you’re taking a look at the above too, don’t forget that all of this will be free to add to your base copy of Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. There’s no season pass or anything, as Illfonic made it well known when the title launched that it’d be getting a healthy dose of complimentary additions.

If you don’t have a copy of that by the way, you can grab Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed for PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the PC, and the Nintendo Switch right now, so you’re ahead of that first Frozen Empire drop. As to when that might specifically be, other than the noted “spring” window, there’s been no reveal just yet.

So stay tuned.
