1971: Indian Naval Front tells a historical (and niche) war story

A little known clash, at least in the west, is the subject of 1971: Indian Naval Front. The upcoming war-game is set for launch some time later this year.

Hot War

Well, maybe not a full-on war really, but 1971: Indian Naval Front definitely tells an interesting tale. Let’s start with this: who’s familiar with the battle between India and Pakistan in the waters of the subcontinent, back in 1971?

If you’re a western game fan, then chances are that you’re not. But the conflict pitted India and Pakistan against one another, during the height of the Bengali Liberation War that consumed eastern Pakistan. It didn’t last all that long, only running a few week’s time. But even so, the conflict did see the two powers going head-to-head, and led to the creation of Bangladesh.

1971: Indian Naval Front looks to tell that tale, as players take up the role of the Indian navy.

1971: Indian Naval Front  is a Third-person Naval Combat Shooter which will enable you to experience pretty much all the naval operations executed during the 1971 war. The naval conflict of 1971 is considered to be the biggest since WWII.

Some of the real-world missions include Operation Trident and Python, taking down PNS Ghazi, air-strikes on East Pakistan airfields, Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIOs) and many more.

Multiplayer coming post-launch

The final game will offer up a campaign with over 40 player-controlled units to command, as well as a set of mini-games along the lines of decoding morse code transmissions. Along with that though, there’s also a planned multiplayer component.

That will arrive in the form of a free update, and include modes like Defend the Port, as well as a classic Team Deathmatch, and more. According to the press release, players can expect to engage in “air-to-air, air-to-sea, and sea-to-sea” action there.

1971: Indian Naval Front is expected to arrive for the PC some time between now and September.
