There’s a hidden horror that stalks the woods in Mothmen 1966, and it’s up to a quartet of locals to uncover it in this retro pulp fiction adventure.
Throwback terror
When last we had a look at Mothmen 1966, it was the official reveal for the retro-romp. Chorus Worldwide and LCB Game Studio’s title presents gamers with a visual novel meant to ape the look of a 1980’s PC game, and it’s all based in real-world lore.
If you’ve seen the Mothman movie, or read the famed book, then you already have an inkling as to just what it is that’ll stalking you in the game. If not, well just be advised that not everything is as it seems, and high-strangeness is most definitely on the loose.
Every November, the Leonid Meteor Shower lights up the sky in a spectacular astrological display, but the shower of ‘66 brought something…else. Follow young lovers Lee and Victoria, local gas station owner Holt, and paranormal investigator Lou as they all encounter a conspiracy with horrifying implications.
On this fateful night, the line between scientific fact and science fiction blurs. Men in black lurk in the shadows, watching, waiting. Red eyes glare through the deep, dark woods…red eyes Lou believes might belong to the “Mothmen” he’s researching.
Chorus Worldwide press release
Essentially a ‘choose your own adventure’ title, Mothmen 1966 plays out over 11 different chapters. In those chapters players will pick from different paths to take, solve puzzles, and also engage in mini-games.
The title is just the first in a series of similar games from LCB, all under the Pixel Pulp banner. Look for it on the PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC this July the 14th.
