Capcom’s Exoprimal is looking like one of the more interesting ideas to come out of the publisher in a while. Who’s not into mechs fighting dinosaurs?
Dinosaurs Attack!
Anyone remember the Dinosaurs Attack! trading cards from the 80s? If you don’t, they featured a way-out story that had time-displaced dinos slaughtering mankind in the present time. And if that sounds cool to you, then you’re gonna love what Capcom has on tap with Exoprimal.
Just revealed at Sony’s State of Play event, Exoprimal is set in the near future. In that time, humanity has some seriously advanced tech, resulting in the creation of exosuits. Those come in handy when, seemingly out of nowhere, temporal portals rip open and… dinosaurs pour out.
Weird? Yes. But it’s also looking like it could make for a pretty fun multiplayer shooter. That’s Exoprimal’s bread and butter, though there is a story, one that Capcom says will be “interwoven throughout the game”.
Check out some unbridled insanity:
Exoprimal pioneers a new multiplayer experience rooted in co-op – but with a competitive edge. In the game’s main mode, Dino Survival, teams fight for every breath against countless dinosaurs while racing to complete missions before rival squads in 5v5 matches. A dynamic mix of objectives keeps players on their guard and ensures each match is different form the last. Exofighters will need to stay on their toes as hunts transition into precious cargo deliveries or desperate last stands against relentless assaults. Opposing teams are even given opportunities to tackle adversaries head-on and impede their progress. While Exoprimal is purely focused around multiplayer, a narrative is interwoven throughout the game. Players can sink their teeth into the world’s rich history and colorful characters by unlocking new story threads and piecing together the mystery behind the dinosaur outbreaks.
Capcom press release
Exoprimal is targeting a 2023 launch for the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, and PC (via Steam).
