Valiant Comics’ classic Shadowman is coming back. The supernatural superhero is set to be revitalized by the retro masters at Nightdive.
Loa on the loose
Steeped in voodoo lore and brandishing a bevy of supernatural powers, Valiant Comics’ Shadowman is the publisher’s key otherworldly hero. In the current year, he’s set to make another comeback with a new comic series, but years ago he was pretty much just as popular.
Back in the publisher’s original 90s run, Shadowman was a huge part of the Valiant Universe, and even spawned a video game. The interesting thing about the game, is that it didn’t bear much of a resemblance to the book.
Be that as it may though, retro-centric studio Nightdive has picked up the property. They’re currently working on a remaster of it, set for release on modern consoles and the PC.
The new version of the game will make use of Nightdive’s KEX engine. KEX was previously seen in action resurrecting titles like the Turok games and Blood. Of course, there’s more to it than just a new engine.
In all, gamers will see inclusions like:
- 4K widescreen display
- Dynamic shadow mapping
- Dynamic per-pixel lighting
- Antialiasing, and other post-process effects
- Higher density of particle effects
- Refined art, audio, and assets
- Refined gameplay experience
- Reintroduction of missing content cut from the original game
- Xbox, PS4, Controller Pro support
- HDR Rendering
There’s no release date for this remaster just yet, but if you’re itching for more Shadowman you don’t have long to wait. The first issue of the new comic book is expected to be out and about on May 20th.
