The Sega Ages series of classic game releases on Nintendo’s Switch continues with the iconic Master System game Phantasy Star.
The Ages pass
Sega Ages is really just getting started, as the publisher switches (no pun intended) their collection of classics from 3DS to Nintendo Switch. So far though, it’s been solid.
While we did get the requisite Sonic title with the character’s original release, we also a lesser known Genesis game. Lightning Force certainly isn’t a household name, and it was cool to see a lesser known title there in the first volley.
Now we’ve got another big name, but also a game that few have played in a good long while. The original Phantasy Star from the Sega Master System.
One of the most innovative games of its time, Phantasy Star is a groundbreaking sci-fi RPG that follows Alis in her planet-spanning quest to avenge the death of her brother and topple a tyrannical regime. Besides faithfully recreating the original experience, this version adds something for everyone, including a new map display to help novice adventurers and a compendium where longtime fans can view their favorite monsters.
Sega press release
As you might’ve guessed, the Ages don’t stop here. Next up is the all-time classic racer Out Run, set to arrive on January 10th. As with Phantasy Star, Out Run will have a few Switch enhancements too, and will include motion controls.
