Game-building Xbox One title Project Spark looses the micro-transactions

Been holding off on trying your hand at making a game in the Xbox One’s Project Spark for fear of the game’s micro-transactions? Well, your time has finally come.

2014’s Project Spark had some very interesting elements when it arrived on the Xbox One last holiday season, not the least of which was that the software granted gamers the ability to craft some pretty in-depth games of their own. There was one catch though- micro-transactions.

Although the game itself was a discounted one  for the initial purchase, you had to buy extra ingredients post-launch in order to make stuff like the standalone Conker episodes come to life for you. This in and of itself was enough to put off a whole bunch of gamers, and the title didn’t really achieve all that much success.

Well, you can forget about all that as Project Spark is now 100% micro-transaction free and can be enjoyed without buying anything other than the base game. The change will take place as of October 5th, and will come along with a bunch of new content from developers Team Dakota and Skybox Labs. Among the new inclusions are more upload slots and an increase to the amount of ‘props’ you can place in your games.

All in all, it sounds like a good deal, but there is a downside. And that is that there will be no additional Conker content produced for the game. That means that the episodic releases will cease, and that the whatever was planned for the micro-series will no longer see the light of day. Though that might be a good thing, as it might mean that Microsoft realized that there’s an audience for the squarely squirrel and might (MIGHT) be working on something of a return to form for him. I say that as a complete imagining and not something that is even rumored, but we can all hope can’t we?

Anyway, if you haven’t picked up a copy of Project Spark, and fancy a go at creating a game for yourself, now is not a bad time to buy in.
