SDCC 2015: Dark Horse announces Call of Duty comic series

Dark Horse Comics is set to have a brand new comic series based on the Call of Duty: Black Ops universe, and it’ll be penned by none other than Larry Hama.

Serving as a prequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops III, the new series from Dark Horse is a pleasant surprise, especially since it’s coming from Larry Hama. The writer is extremely well-known of course, as a long time scribe of G.I. Joe comics and more than knows his way around military themes. Black Ops III’s fiction is sounding a lot like something that you’d see in a Joe book too, so he should be right at home.

The Call of Duty®: Black Ops III comic book series follows an elite group of cybernetically enhanced soldiers as they wage a secret war across a futuristic, war-torn world transformed by technology.

In the first issue, the elite squad infiltrates Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to take down a double agent . . . but as they close in, the operatives uncover something much more sinister at hand.

If you’re heading to Comic Con next week, Dark Horse has a special surprise for you as well, with a free mini comic, that’ll be exclusive to the show. You won’t find this one anywhere else and you can nab a copy at either the Dark Horse booth on the SDCC show floor (#2615) or at the Activision (they publish the game series) ‘activation’ site.

As with most things at SDCC, you might want to hurry though. Free stuff has a tendency to blow out of whatever booth is offering it at break-neck speeds and this’ll probably hold true for that as well. While the freebie at Comic Con is nice, you’ll be able to get the whole story when Call of Duty: Black Ops III #1 hits the stands on November 4th, which is just two days before the game arrives on consoles and the PC, on November 6th.
