The Punisher #3 (Comics) Preview

Frank runs smack into the Dos Souls gang’s deadly new weapon. Not great.

This March, Frank Castle dukes it out with one of the Marvel Universe’s big bads in THE PUNISHER #3 – from the critically acclaimed creative team of Nathan Edmondson and Mitch Gerads! Frank has discovered the Dos Soles gang’s deadly new weapon – and it looks like dark times ahead for the city of Los Angeles. The clock is ticking, and if The Punisher’s going to stop it he’ll have to stab, shoot and explode his way through scores of gang members and one very angry Marvel super villain! And you’ll never guess who it is! A daring raid on a heavily fortified compound? Should be Punisher business as usual, but nothing’s been usual since Frank’s move to Los Angeles. The high-octane hit new series continues when THE PUNISHER #3 hits comic shops this March!

That’s a lot of electrical discharge hitting the Punisher in the face right there on that cover. Makes you wonder who the super-villain is that’s teamed up with that west coast gang, no?

Mystery baddie or no, The Punisher is turning out to be a stylish and action packed read thanks to artist Mitch Gerads and series scribe Nathan Edmonson. I’m partial to the character to begin with, but the opening arc has beautifully shaken up Frank’s world with this California trip and actually provided something that I feel like Punisher writers have been trying to do for the better part of a decade- something new for the vigilante.

Adding to that newness are Gerads visuals, which are stunning in their noire-like feel and tone. It’s kind of amazing too what can be done with a more muted and simple color palate. The Punisher is a perfect example of the whole ‘less is more’ philosophy.

Issue #3 of the book will land at retailers on March 5th; if you missed either of the opening issues, now’s your chance to catch up on one of the coolest comics in Marvel’s lineup.
