New Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze gameplay

As if today’s Nintendo Direct wasn’t enough, fans are getting a whole new batch of gameplay videos to feast their eyes on. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is just one of many.

In this video, the quality of David Wise’s music really shines. It almost makes this game feel even more like a proper Donkey Kong Country than its predecessor Donkey Kong Country Returns. In a way, I’m almost taken back to my childhood when hearing his particular style of music. Not to mention the creativity in stage design; if anything this game seems to surpass DKCR’s novelty with the way its levels are crafted. You really have to admire little touches to stages such as barrels that you blast out of, which are attached to ice falling into large crevices. Fresh mechanics such as the former make levels that much more fun to play in. They take a different approach to the conventional, while still sticking to the tried and true formula of the game.

What should also be noted is Bramble Scramble, there’s a lot going on in the level. The fact that the game can manage a solid 60 fps at 1080p when there’s a generous amount of assets on screen, and active ones at that, is impressive. It reinforces the fact that this is indeed a next gen game. It may not be photo-realistic, but considering all that is put into it, the game out-performs many titles in the next gen market. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze arrives in stores and on the eshop February 21st, 2013.
