Seriously, The Evil Within looks like Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami at his spookiest (and goriest) and the new trailer is nearly 12 minutes of sheer terror.
Detective Sebastien Castellanos and his partners are called in to investigate a gruesome mass murder. After witnessing a mysterious force slaughter his fellow officers, Sebastian is ambushed and knocked unconscious. When the video opens, he finds his world has been turned upside down. Facing unimaginable terror and fighting for survival in a world where hideous creatures wander among the dead, Sebastian embarks on a frightening journey to unravel who or what is behind this unimaginable evil.
So a few impressions right off the bat- The Evil Within is creep-tastic in the way that the original Resident Evil titles were (for their time anyway) and it’s way bigger than I originally thought. I had assumed that the game took place in a mansion-type setting and that was the primary play environment.
But The Evil Within is so much bigger than that. It looks like an entire city has been devastated by whatever it is that slaughtered Castellanos’ squad to kick off the game’s opening. Just how big the game world is and what horrors wait within it for you to come across have yet to be really detailed, but I have a feeling that this trailer is more than a great step to get fans interested.
The Evil Within is on the way for sometime in 2014 for the Xbox 360/One, PS3/4 and PC.
