Atlus shows off 8 minutes of Tex Murphy: Tesla Effect

16 years after a cliffhanger ending left fans wondering if old Tex was still alive, Tesla Effect shows off some full-motion video the way it’s supposed to be.

If you’re a longtime Tex player, then you probably recognize the fact that the FMV looks way better now. That’s because Tesla Effect was shot in HD- what hasn’t changed is the series’ use of real actors playing the characters in the fully modeled, 3D backdrops. Green screen at its finest.

Developer Big Finish Games is quick to point out that this isn’t an ‘interactive movie’ though. Gamers who haven’t ever played a Tex Murphy game (or who might be too young to remember the whole FMV craze from the ’90s) might think there isn’t much to do in Tesla Effect, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

You saw a little bit of what the game has in store in the montage above, but just in case you missed it; you can expect dialog branches, puzzles and exploration aplenty. You can also expect to see some familiar faces (yes, that was Todd Bridges) with a cast that has a whole lot of nostalgic star-power:

  • Todd Bridges (Willis from Diff’rent Strokes…ask someone older if you don’t know what that is)
  • June “TV’s Greatest Mom” Lockhart…ask someone even older if you don’t know who that is
  • Larry “Soup Nazi” Thomas (you all have seen Seinfeld, right?)
  • Kevin “Tom Servo” Murphy
  • The original Tex himself, Chris Jones

Look for Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure to release on Steam early next year.
