WB announces one Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition to rule them all

The king of Lord of the Rings box sets? It looks like the Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition might at least be the most visually impressive.

And my collector’s edition

With a total of 31 discs and a double dose of physical goodies, this one’s a pretty sharp-looking collector’s edition. But while the slate of bonuses isn’t all that deep, this pack features one of the greatest films sagas of all time in what should be its most impressive form to date.

Contained within this folding and turning, “puzzle box” packaging, is the complete Hobbit/Lord of the Rings film collection. And the whole thing is remastered in glorious 4K UHD with HDR.

Both the theatrical and lengthy extended versions of the 6 movies are included, and all of them have gotten that full remastered treatment. There’s also a 64 page booklet included, with costumes, photography and production notes from the film. And rounding out the set is a deck of art cards dressed as middle-Earth travel posters and famous Hobbit and LotR scenes.

As for the digital stuff, well there isn’t much. What you’ll find is ” the original Cannes Film Festival presentation reel, and footage from the recent Alamo Drafthouse cast reunion featuring director Peter Jackson along with cast members Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Billy Boyd, Ian McKellan, Dominic Monaghan, Viggo Mortenson, Andy Serkis, Liv Tyler, and Elijah Wood.”

So there are some extras to watch, if you’re into that, just not many. Remember, the main draws in this one are the remasters of the films themselves.

As for when it’ll be out, you’ll be able to add the Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition to your collection on October 26th.
