New Man of Medan developer commentary released

A haunted freighter, a cast of unsuspecting characters, and a branching story with… multiple players. This is multiplayer in Man of Medan.

Players of Medan

The Dark Pictures Anthology – Man of Medan is a pretty ambitious title. It’s a horror game, where there’s a definite story to tell, but it’s one with what seems to be pretty widely branching narratives.

According to developer Supermassive, that’s not an easy thing to get right. After all, branching story points don’t exactly make for a linear experience. Even tougher though, is to get it right while there’s more than one player interacting with its world. Just think of all the trouble that’d cause for someone building a narrative.

Yes, Man of Medan is playable in multiplayer. So hoe does that work with two gamers taking on the horrors of the drifting freighter? The latest developer diary sheds some light on the situation.

As you might’ve gathered, there’s no versus or any sort of competitive play here. The multiplayer in Man of Medan is purely co-op. Playable in online only, the mode will task gamers with solving the adventure’s puzzles as a team.

A long time coming, The Dark Pictures Anthology – Man of Medan will be ready for play on August 30th for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
