EA Disable Some SimCity Features

The calamity that is the SimCity launch continues.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock recently, you may be aware that EA have been having issues with the launch of SimCity, with people being completely unable to get in.  SimCity requires a constant online connection in order to play, but the servers have collapsed under the weight of the traffic from people trying to log in.

In an attempt to fix the problem, EA have decided to disable features of the game that they deem to be ‘non-critical’ and that will not affect the core game experience.  These disabled features include leaderboards, achievements and region filters.  A spokesman said “In the meantime, so that we can give you as good an experience as possible, we are in the process of deploying a hotfix to all servers. This includes various improvements and also disables a few non-critical gameplay features (leaderboards, achievements and region filters).”

Hopefully these issues blow over sooner rather than later, but there are a lot of angry players out there right now.
