Sega’s Total War series goes fantasy with Games Workshop’s Warhammer license

If there’s such a thing as a ‘perfect fit’, I think it might be Total War and Warhammer.

Developer Creative Assembly has been producing the excellent Total War series for a while now, and quietly making some of the best (and most fun) strategy games pretty much ever. They’ve all pretty much been based in reality though, with the latest entry in the series setting players in the world of the Huns and Eastern Europe.

That’s all about to change though, as Sega has made official the first straight-up fantasy entry for Total War with Warhammer.

Excited yet? Creative Assembly promises “gigantic monsters, flying creatures, legendary heroes and storms of magical power take their place on the battlefield, alongside thousands of warriors clashing in real-time tactical battles”, which all sounds about as fantastic as would be possible.

The campaign itself in Total War: Warhammer is a turn-based affair, and played out with multiple races that you can field. Aside from battling it out, you can apparently also forge alliances in the game, which should make for some interesting play, especially for those familiar with tabletop publisher Games Workshop’s Warhammer universe. CA is also saying that the campaign’s storyline will be suitably epic, world-ending stuff. That’s something that should ring nicely in the ears of the Old World faithful as well.

Not content to be a one-off title either, Total War: Warhammer is set to be a trilogy of games, this being the first entry in that series. As for any info on what might be coming down the line, or a release date for this specific game, there isn’t any at the moment. Expect to see loads more on the game though, in the months to come. All of which we’ll have right here on BG.
