Skeletor is back and on the attack in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction.
Masters of the Universe fans, get ready
How many Masters of the Universe games have there been over the years? A handful? It still baffles us how there was nothing on the NES, given the timeframe, and the ensuing decades haven’t exactly seen a glut of them either.
Games were scarce in the early 2000’s as well, and the same goes for when Mattel brought the action figure line back to mass market retailers. MOTU Origins was pretty darn big time after all, and yet… no games. Well, sit tight fans, because there’s one that’s finally coming.
And if you’ve been waiting, today’s your day because it’s finally gotten tagged with a release date.
Yes, as you can see at the close of the trailer, there’s finally a release date for this old-school adventure. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction will arrive for consoles and the PC in just a few months time, on April 28th, 2026.
MYAH!
From Limited Run Games and Bitmap Bureau “in collaboration with Mattel”, this new title sets its sights on the most iconic era for He-Man. That setting is what looks like a reasonable facsimile of the original Filmation cartoon.
Expect single and 2 player co-op action to be on the table, as players make their way through a slick looking map of Eternia that’s loaded with 12 stages. According to the press release too, these will be recognizable locales. Fans will fight their way through the Royal Palace, and from “the Vine Jungle to the dark corridors of Snake Mountain.”
He-Man, Man-At-Arms, and Teela will all be available right off the bat, and yes, He-Man will be able to ride Battle Cat. But hang on, as that’s not all. He-Man’s sister She-Ra will serve as an unlockable too. So He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction will be a little bit of a crossover.
As for who the heroic crew will be up against, Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Beast Man, and Trap Jaw are all included. Limited Run Games says that “deep-cut villains” are onboard as well though. That’s kind of obvious honestly, as who imagines Shokoti would be as prominent as she is?
Our fingers are crossed that this plays as great as it looks. It’s been way too long since we’ve drawn our magic sword and said…
