Millennium Runners takes to the anti-gravity track on PC

Not a sub-genre that gets a ton of love, Millennium Runners leads the way for anti-gravity racing, and hits the track today.

Don’t wipe out, it’s Millennium Runners

When you talk about racing games, there are legendary titles in the mix that make any top ten. Those are mainly grounded games, centered on taking slick and, at times, licensed rides to pavement. But there are a select few that aren’t as concerned with the cars of today. Or, for that matter, asphalt.

Those would be decidedly anti-gravity in nature, as you might’ve guessed. It’s a sub-genre that doesn’t get that much attention, but can be pretty great when done right. That said, the gaming multiverse hasn’t seen one such title for a while. Well, enter Italian developer Commodore Industries, and Millennium Runners.

Fans of hover cars and cyberpunk/futuristic themes might want to check this one out. Millennium Runners is meant to be an “explosive tribute to classic arcade racing games”, and from the visuals anyway, it definitely seems to carry the vibe.

If it plays as well as the trailer makes it look, it might be a winner.

In Millennium Runners players pilot anti-gravity speedsters across alien tracks packed with impossible curves, breathtaking jumps, and adrenaline-fueled challenges. Race through stunning sci-fi environments as one of four iconic teams, each with a distinct visual identity and backstory. With three thrilling game modes: Race, Time Attack, and Last Ship Standing and an original, author-driven soundtrack, Millennium Runners delivers a high-speed experience that’s bold, stylish, and unforgettable.

A whole new world

Millennium Runners features a total of six racing teams, and four worlds to speed across. Those run the gamut from a cityscape to a desert world, and even one that touts “acid lakes and sudden magnetic storms”.

Race fans will be able to engage with those worlds in a pair of modes as well. Those are pretty much what you’d expect as well, with both Career Mode and Grand Prix. That said though, there are some unique twists to the former.

Career Mode will have you completing objectives within races. Getting those done will earn you respect from one of the teams. And doing that will, in turn, unlock new ships and perks. As for the Grand Prix, that’s a little more straightforward. There players will take on a tournament that ramps up in difficulty as they go.

And if you dig synthwave, Millennium Runners sounds like it was crafted with quite a bit of audio-love. The title stars a soundtrack from Abyss and 100% Amiga DJ, that’s been remixed by Alessandro Bertaccini. The result is a set of tracks that the developer says “recalls Commodore’s roots and the golden age of Amiga”.

Rev your engines, Millennium Runners had a soft-launch recently, and is out right now for the PC, via Steam.
