We’re getting ever closer to the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. And with that, developer Treyarch is digging into multiplayer details.
The other half of Black Ops 7
There aren’t two different CoD titles heading to consoles and PC this year. But even so, every Call of Duty is kind of like two games in one. There are the campaigns, which typically get shifted to the rear in the minds of fans and press, and then there are the multiplayer suites.
For the record, we’ve almost always dug the single-player over the multi. But that’s us, and the franchise’s multiplayer continues to be a phenomenon, no matter what your opinion of its current state. A highlight of the year, the latest CoD release usually causes no end of online discourse, and hosts a huge number of multiplayer-centric fans.
This year’s launch looks to carry that year-over-year success forward, packing in everything that players look for. As usual though, it won’t be the same old, same old, as developer Treyarch has updated a number of elements.
Those will run the gamut from the impactful to the subtle.
Changes to the war zone
There’s been a significant amount of talk as to Call of Duty changing its tactics. With last year’s game offering crazy multiplayer characters and getting even further away from the ‘military’ theme of that the franchise had years ago, some fans felt a little put off by it.
If you’re looking for more details on what, if any, changes are inbound as to the above though, you won’t find it here. Instead, Treyarch and Activision have put forward a “dev talk” that pours over more of the nuts and bolts alterations to multiplayer. And yes, that list includes changes that were made via feedback from the Beta test.
Highlights include:
Activision press release
- ADS while sliding, diving, AND Wall Jumping – no Perk needed
- Louder footsteps
- Slight adjustments to slide speed and distance
- Faster mantling speeds
- Perks redistributed for more powerful choices
- Aim assist changes coming across inputs and ranges – with more details coming soon!
