Available for some time on the PC, Apogee’s Turbo Overkill is finally out for consoles. Time to fire up that chainsaw leg and get to work.
Johnny Turbo
Have you played Turbo Overkill on its original home, the PC? From Trigger Happy Interactive, the game sports super fast-paced, first-person action that’s wrapped up in a fairly unique cyberpunk world. It’s there that players take on the role of Johnny Turbo, a cyborg who finds himself pitted against a rogue AI.
Accompanying him on his journey against the AI Syn (played by actress Patricia Summersett) and the bounty hunter Maw (voiced by Gianni Matragrano), is SAMM. Johnny’s own AI has quite the vocals behind him too, with John St. John providing his personality. If you don’t know, he’s the very same actor that brought Duke Nukem to life.
That said though, you might not exactly recognize him this time around.
Carve a path through thousands of augmented cyberbeasts in three highly varied episodes. Take chainsaw-augmented protagonist Johnny Turbo into the vast city of Paradise, through slums and arenas, and ultimately hitch a rocket ride to an orbiting master station. Witness carnage speed, upgraded visuals and improved performance at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, or take the action on the go with the Nintendo Switch.

A whole new world
Though the console version of Turbo Overkill is still published by Apogee, the porting was handled by Black Sheep Studio. With that in mind, this isn’t exactly the game that you might’ve played on the PC, as Turbo Overkill now has “upgraded visuals” and “improved performance”, according to Apogee. Don’t worry if you’re a PC player though, because you won’t be missing out. An “enhanced visuals” mode will also be making its way to that platform at some point, bringing parity.
Turbo Overkill is out now for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch, in addition to the PC. And while there’s of course a standard edition to buy into, there’s also the Turbo Overkill Digital Deluxe Edition.
That includes:
- A 42-page digital prequel comic, “Turbo Overkill: Original Syn,” exploring Johnny’s life before his cyber-augmentations and expanding the game’s backstory. The comic’s cover was illustrated by Dave Johnson, the Eisner Award-winning artist renowned for his work on Batman, Superman: Red Son, X-Men, Deadpool, and the critically acclaimed 100 Bullets. The comic will be available for FREE to the public on Amazon via Kindle and comiXology in March 2025, and at participating digital storefronts (Steam, GoG, and Epic Games Store).
- A comprehensive 140-page digital artbook, featuring early concepts, models, and behind-the-scenes design and gameplay insights—including ideas that didn’t make the final cut. Digital Deluxe owners will receive access to the digital artbook, or access can be purchased separately on Amazon (Kindle + comiXology) for $3.99 in March 2025.
- A 35-minute soundtrack sampler delivering a thunderous fusion of Turbo Overkill’s signature sound—cyberpunk grit, heavy metal intensity, and sweeping symphonic arrangements—crafted by composers Chipper Hammond, Nikola Jeremic, and Tim Stoney. This exclusive tracklist showcases the game’s dynamic musical range, blending searing guitar riffs, cinematic orchestral swells, and heart-pounding electronic pulses for the ultimate adrenaline rush.
