If you missed it, here’s that launch announcement for Sonic Superstars

One of the best-looking Sonic titles in a while and a possible fall blockbuster, Sonic Superstars launches this October.

Speeding towards launch

While it was announced a while ago, Sega’s Sonic Superstars lacked an official release date til this past weekend’s Gamescom show. There the game had a new trailer debut, as well as some new info and that hotly anticipated drop-date, which will be October 17th.

Some of what was gone-over was already known, like the fact that Sonic Superstars features traditional 2D Sonic action but with a 3D look. The title will also star a full cast of Sonic favorites, like playable versions of Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose, plus the vile Dr. Eggman and Fang as villains.

The title will also be bringing back the Chaos Emeralds in some interesting new ways though, allowing players the power to “swim up waterfalls, change form, and more”, according to Sega. You’ll also be able to play through the entire adventure with up to four players, and actually go head-to-head for some seven-player online versus action.

Along with the above, Sega also revealed that Sonic Superstars will be released with two editions. The base game will be accompanied by a Digital Deluxe Edition, and both will offer some extras. If you’re going for the max-Superstars experience though, you’re gonna want to go digital.
